{"id":287,"date":"2012-05-22T04:30:52","date_gmt":"2012-05-22T08:30:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.rvfrd.com\/?page_id=287"},"modified":"2013-10-12T05:57:15","modified_gmt":"2013-10-12T09:57:15","slug":"our-history","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.rvfrd.com\/?page_id=287","title":{"rendered":"A Rich History, A Lasting Legacy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Remington Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department was first established on March 3, 1942.\u00a0 Its first firehouse was located on East Main Street in downtown Remington.\u00a0 With just a handful of initial volunteers, the tiny department began to meet the needs of residents in the southern Fauquier County, Virginia area.<\/p>\n<p>The department\u2019s first fire engine was actually hand-built by its first Fire Chief and Founder William Edwin \u201cEddie\u201d Andes, with salvaged vehicle parts and a lot of ingenuity.\u00a0 Later, the department purchased its first \u201cofficial\u201d piece of fire apparatus &#8212; A used 1927 Brockway fire engine &#8212; for $1,400.\u00a0 Just like today, all of the RVFD\u2019s trucks and equipment are purchased with funds raised by the department.\u00a0\u00a0 While the County of Fauquier provides a large portion of the department\u2019s operating expenses from county tax revenues, volunteers still fund the purchase of all equipment and facilities with an ongoing fundraising program.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In 1952, the community and members of what was then called the \u201cRemington Volunteer Fire Department\u201d saw a need for emergency medical services, and the department purchased its first ambulance.\u00a0 To reflect its wider mission, the department became known as the Remington Volunteer Fire and Rescue, providing both fire fighting and emergency medical services.<\/p>\n<p>With the addition of more equipment, the department outgrew its original building and began the construction of a new facility to meet its needs for years to come.\u00a0 In the spring of 1954, the department moved into the new facility at its current location on East Madison Street.<\/p>\n<p>In the 1967 the Remington Lions Club generously donated a new ambulance to the department, and more equipment was added as the growing department raised the funds.<\/p>\n<p>In 2007, the RVFRD broke ground on an addition and renovation to its current building, which officially opened for service on June 27, 2009.\u00a0 The spacious addition to the building houses nine vehicle (apparatus) bays, two training rooms and the company\u2019s administrative offices.\u00a0 The original part of the building, which was fully renovated, contains the department\u2019s banquet hall, radio room, and four bunk rooms that can sleep sixteen members.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Remington Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department was first established on March 3, 1942.\u00a0 Its first firehouse was located on East Main Street in downtown Remington.\u00a0 With just a handful of initial volunteers, the tiny department began to meet the &hellip; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rvfrd.com\/?page_id=287\">Continue reading <span class=\"meta-nav\">&rarr;<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"parent":0,"menu_order":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","template":"","meta":{"ngg_post_thumbnail":0,"footnotes":""},"class_list":["post-287","page","type-page","status-publish","hentry"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.rvfrd.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/pages\/287","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.rvfrd.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/pages"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.rvfrd.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/page"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.rvfrd.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.rvfrd.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=287"}],"version-history":[{"count":14,"href":"https:\/\/www.rvfrd.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/pages\/287\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":291,"href":"https:\/\/www.rvfrd.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/pages\/287\/revisions\/291"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.rvfrd.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=287"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
